“Password”, 123 or 1234 or 123456, “letmein”, “love”, “asdfgh”, and “god” are the most widely used password by people who are not aware about the password security. It doesn’t take many guesses to hack these weak passwords. There are now couple of password and passphrase generating softwares which work on multiple platform and multiple browsers such as Keypass and Lastpass. Lastpass has always been my best which now even supports iphone, blackberry, windows phone, symbian, android across browsers such as IE, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Your vault is always safe with a freeware. You could also use it for managing your active directory. Have you thought of just another simple idea which can make increase your password strength? Shifting keys. Yes, shifting keys. for e.g “password” would be “[sddeptf" if you shift one key to your right, shifting two keys would make it "]dffr[tg” which is even more complicated. Finally, be smart use different passwords for each account.

Version 4.0 of BackTrack has been released recently. There could be lot of other GUI software to crack wireless network. As a good reminder, BackTrack lets us know how easy it is to crack a WEP-encrypted network, and make us think about solution to tighten our home security. At least we can turn of our SSID broadcast for insidious neighbor.
